A distinct chill had settled in the air, accompanied by a soft blown snowfall, just barely enough to dust the ground with a light white. Most people weren't all that fond of being outside in the deepening evening chill, but Monique wasn't most people. If you looked at her, you wouldn't have thought it was late October in Alaska. She wasn't all bundled up, not any more than normal, nor did she show any outward signs of even feeling the cold.
That in of itself was fairly stunning, considering that she had been out there long enough to get a dusting of snow through her hair and on her clothes. But still, she was sitting on a stone bench, back to a corner out of habit, wearing nothing but a pair of cargo pants, her tennis shoes, and a hooded, half zipped sweatshirt, revealing the tank top underneath. One leg was dangling off of the side of the bench, the other was propping up a book, which she was disinterestedly reading. It wasn't an assignment or anything, she had just been bored, and told not to cause trouble.
Right, like she "caused" the trouble. It wasn't her fault that most people, while knowing of her temper, still endeavored to annoy her. Vacuous blobs. Back at her old school, her temper was legendary. At her old school, nobody dared fuck with Monique James. But here was different. Here, it seemed like everyone and their fucking brother wanted a piece of her. To see if she was really as tough as she claimed she was.
And who was she to disappoint the masses?
Still, on days like this, she needed an escape that was more thorough than anything drugs or alcohol could provide. Normally, that's when she would have thrown herself into music, whether it was the soothing range of tones that a piano could create, or the heart stopping blasts from a guitar. But she had lost the music that had lingered inside of her, any notes that she tried to play came out broken and sour.
Some poets could liken that to her heart. It wouldn't exactly be wrong.
She was unlovable now. But it wasn't like she wanted anyone else to get close to her. She was poison. Anyone that got too close would eventually die in a horrible way. She couldn't handle any more of that. So she took care of it by shoving everyone else away.
The chilled breeze shot through her, burning then numbing the fragile skin beneath the too thin clothes. She hadn't been able to feel her fingers for a few hours now, even as they turned the pages of the book she was boredly reading. It wasn't that she didn't like books, it was just that her attention span wasn't all that great at the moment. She needed a better distraction. Someone not annoying.

let me know the way before there's hell to pay(GIVE ME ROOM TO LAY THE LAW AND LET ME GO)Okay, so maybe replacing Edward had not been one of his best ideas, but Eddy made a convincing argument. It wouldn’t be hard, he said. Wouldn’t be anything more than he’d ever dealt with.
Noah was not the most patient person, but he had a good attitude and always smiled. Hence his nickname, Rainbows. Most of the time, the man preferred going by that name, not really fond of his birth name. He loved his parents, but his name was just so boring, he preferred his nickname. It was actually quite amusing, he thought, snorting to himself as he rounded a corner outside, his thoughts being drawn back to the current job.
“Noah, I need someone to cover my position in Alaska. It’s not a hard job, being the security director at Ridgestone. You can do it easily, and they provide lodging as well as a staff to work with. I’m being dispatched to the sandbox and you’re the only person I trust enough to treat them fairly and get their respect,” he’d said.
Noah scoffed. At the time, he’d taken the job and hadn’t thought twice about it. The guys all did whatever they could for each other, support and the like, but they all had closer friends in the group. As a collective, they stuck up for each other, and all agreed to hide Noah’s gayness and his flamboyancy. As it was, the don’t ask, don’t tell policy worked.
Of course, Noah wasn’t without a perfect track record. He was a smart mouth, didn’t take shit from anyone, but was immensely loyal to his friends. Hell, they’d all been court martialed and then found it was completely useless. They banded together and that was that. As it were, Noah’d been out running along the grounds, trying to clear his thoughts and his feet had let him to the garden.
He had a thin, but warm sweatshirt on with the Marines’ logo stamped on the back and just a plain t-shit and track pants on before he nearly stumbled on the girl, arching an eyebrow at her. He knew who she was from Eddy’s warnings, but he figured he may as well play innocent for the most part.
“If you’re imitating Jack Frost, may I suggest a sex change first?” he said, his voice a baritone rumble that didn’t suit his personality or his looks. It threw everyone off when he spoke, and since the main rarely yelled, it was an even bigger shock when he did.
Dark eyes regarded the girl, arms crossed and the steam from his run rising off him as he stood loosely, watching her for a reaction. so what would an angel say? At the voice, Monique looked up, impassive. She had heard him arrive, but hoped the male had been smart enough to keep going. But apparently he hadn't been. Cool emerald eyes, just like her brother's, stared up at him, sweeping over the form with a quirked eyebrow. "Wow." she remarked dryly. "I could almost pretend that was original for a second there. Did you spend your whole run thinking that you'd say something like that to whoever you met on your run?" A single piece of tattered emerald ribbon, like the type used to be wrapped in someone's hair, was the her bookmark as she closed the book and stood.
Her visage was as cold as the bricks and snow, book left, seemingly abandoned on the bench. "So, now do you have something to say? Or were you just gonna stand here and stare at me like I killed your cat?" There was a step closer to him, defiant. "And before you go on lecturing me about rules and manners and a whole bunch of other shit that nobody but you cares about, let me advise you to save your breath. I don't give a flying fuck about what you and your damp, wannabe flaming ass have to say."
She didn't like the staff, and she had already heard about him replacing Eddy. Figures. Nobody around here was going to stay long enough to do any good. Monique figured that this guy, whoever he was, he'd be gone before anyone bothered to take him as a sign of authority. At least anyone important.
She held a defiant stance, sizing him up and waiting for some sort of response. Whether he'd try and rip her a new one, or leave. Both would give her an insight into his thought patterns. If he chose to fight with her, it suggested that he was stubborn, perhaps an altruist, depending on how he fought. If he didn't that meant that either he didn't care, or he had already given up on trying to change the students. The choice was his.

let me know the way before there's hell to pay(GIVE ME ROOM TO LAY THE LAW AND LET ME GO)Noah merely quirked an eyebrow in response, already trying to tamp down the slow easy grin that spread across his features as he watched the fire spiting girl. Yeah, he knew about her from Eddy and had paid special attention to the girl’s file. She was one of the more troublesome ones and he knew damn well. Grunting and crossing his arms over his chest, he let that infuriating grin spread across his lips as he blinked dark eyes.
“Actually, no, I have a team of writers that give me witticisms before I come outside, in the even that I meet someone such as yourself. And really, you could have completely saved your breath on the bullshit about respect and whatnot. I haven’t done shit to earn respect, and quite frankly, I don’t care if you like me or not. I’m here to do a job so my friend can go hopefully not get himself killed in somewhere a helluva lot warmer than this,” he said lightly, as if he were discussing the weather.
Brushing a hand over his hair, he dusted the snow out of it, although it wasn’t much help, it began piling up in it as soon as the topmost layer was gone. Grunting in slight annoyance, his eyes flashed slightly before he stretched his arms up, not really caring how all this was going. He just wanted to go back inside and unfortunately, he wasn’t allowed to leave a student out to freeze, even if they wanted to. He hated paper work.
“Unfortunately for you, missy, I’m not on fire, so the whole flaming thing? You’re just hoping that there’s another gay guy around for you to wail on. And I hate cats, so I’d probably have killed it long ago myself, or just given you a reward for killing the damned thing,” Noah continued, cracking his neck.
“And you freezing yourself makes more paperwork, I hate paperwork, so those are pretty much my options. I don’t give a fuck what you do so long as I’m not cleaning up a body,” he grinned, his entire stance just screaming about how laid back he was, and amused with the girl. so what would an angel say?
