RIDGESTONE
THE SCHOOL
Ridgestone detention facility is known through out the seven continents and further. Located in Alaska, the school resides right outside the limits of a little town called Anaktuvuk Pass. The detention facility is indeed a school, one that takes in students from all over the world. These students are not typical adolescences, as can be taken from the school's name. They are young adults who have committed a rather harsh crime, and instead of being sent to Juvenal hall (or prison) they are sent to this school as a last resort. The students who are sent to this school are reviewed by the high staff who runs the school, and if they feel the young man or woman would have a chance of change at their school, or perhaps can be set back on to the right path, they are accepted into the school. Ridgestone does the same with it's staff as well, always being to a dot when they review someone before letting them join their school. They only accept employees who will be dedicated to the school, and whom will work hard to work with the students. That is what Ridgestone is about, the students. That is not to say the school is not looking ot hire though, in fact they would encourage people to apply if they are up for the job. With so many students come in to their school, they could use as much staff help as possible.
ANAKTUVUK PASS
Anaktuvuk Pass is a city and mountain pass in North Slope Borough, Alaska, United States. It has a population of just under 300 and a health clinic, the Anaktuvuk Pass Health Clinic. ( Students with rather serious injuries or a heavy illness are brought here ) Emergency service is provided by volunteers and a health aide, there are no doctors on site. Additional health care is provided by Anaktuvuk Pass Volunteer Fire Dept. There is a single school with a scarce 90 students. ( Some of the staff of Ridgestone whom are parents send their children here ). The North Slope Borough provides all utilities to Anaktuvuk Pass, and there is also the Simon Paneak Memorial Museum in Anaktuvuk Pass. ( A museum of the The Nunamiuts' culture, a nomadic group of Inupiat that lived inland in northern Alaska. ). The last place of mention is the Anaktuvuk Pass Airport. ( Students arrive here before being brought to Ridgestone ).
SCHOOL RULES
Classes Students are required to attend the classes that are on their schedules. A student may not skip a class, without proper permission (The being that teacher or another has excused them from the class, or the school doctor has them in their care). If a student misses a class, it is up to that student to confront them about this issue. After the third time, the student will receive a form of punishment. This is a regular school like any other when it comes to it's attendance and classes.
Curfew All students must be back to their rooms by NINE A CLOCK. This rule will be heavily enforced and security will not tolerate wise mouthed students trying to mess around at night. There have been one too many events for us to take this rule with ease anymore. The only exception to this rule is if a student must see a teacher, in which case they best get a note earlier in the day, or have a security guard escort them. It is inconvenient, but past events have shown that this is something that must not be taken lightly.
Mess Hall Open from early in the morning, to late in the evening for meals, students may still come in at other hours to grab a snack or such. Food it not permitted beyond the Mess Hall doors, and students must properly dispose of their tray and utensils. Ridgestone is a clean school, and filled with older students who are expected to be mature. If a student makes a mess, please be kind enough to clean it up, and do not try to sneak food or utensils out of the Mess Hall.
Visitors Occasionally, a student may have a visitor, but this as well has strict rules. Visiting hours are from 8 am to 8 pm. Visitors are not allowed to stay over night in the school, and they must be searched before entering. When someone does come to visit, the student must also permit this person to visit, and during their visit they must have a staff member available. It can be a teacher, or a guard, as long as they are staff. (We encourage the students ask a staff member who they feel close/safe with.) Due to past incidents, we are much harder with visitors. If they show any harsh signs (like an attempt to harm the student or such) they will immediately be removed by either the staff member with the child or the guards. They will be banned from returning to the school again, and so we please ask that unless one is truly coming to see the student, do not waste the trip.
Isolation When a student misbehaves, there are different levels of punishment. Isolation is one of the worst. Just as it sounds, it is when a student is placed into a video monitored room alone for a certain amount of time. This can range from one day, to a week. The teachers will be notified if this happens, and the students work will be sent to them. Students in Isolation are brought meals (and if they are there for numerous days, the guards can bring them some clothes). All students will be searched before they are put in Isolation, and are watched over during their entire time there.
Searches Though rather inconvenient for both the staff and students, this is necessary. Due to some past incidents, the guards are pushed more now to, when they feel a student is being suspicious, they be searched. This goes for both their person and dorm room. Teachers are also given the right to search a student, and encouraged to if they suspect something amiss with them. It is not something that anyone enjoys, but it must be done for both the safety of the staff and classmates, but also the student themselves. Dorm checks are to be once a week, though the day is not set, it can simply be any day of the week.
Leaving Campus This is something is a privilege, and only towards the students who have earned it. To earn something like this, a student must truly prove themselves to not only their teachers, but to the rest of the staff and fellow peers as well. When a student leaves campus, there is rules of course. They must have a staff member with them, and the staff member must submit the pass to the main office. If it is approved by the administrator or dean, they may then leave but of course go no further then the town and must be back by 8 pm. There is no exception to this rule, and by no means may a student even stay the night outside of the school.
