Following the creation of synthetic blood,
vampires have progressed from legendary monsters
to fellow citizens overnight. Sookie Stackhouse is a
telepath and waitress at Merlotte's in the small Louisiana
town of Bon Temps, owned by Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammell),
a shapeshifter—though this secret is kept hidden. One night,
Sookie meets Bill Compton, a handsome 173-year-old vampire
who has returned to Bon Temps following the death of his
last remaining relative. As she cannot hear his thoughts,
she finds it easy to be in his company and, over the first season,
the two become romantically involved.

A human in Bon Temps is brutally murdered by a Red.
After this brutal murder, a high profile black court tattles
to the press about their counterparts. Humans are now at a
loss, wondering if vampires were walking about with them
in the sun.

Hostility between the two species of vampire causes
conflicts that have the rumor mill whispering about a possible
war. A clan of red court vampires move into Bon Temps, their
leader professing to only be there to calm the hot tempers of
everyone involved. Not every red court vamp is a part of
the difficulties.
Each side is suspicious of the other, not knowing who is out to
get whom. There are spies in the mix, people out for themselves and
genuine peacekeepers. Which side are you on?
