it's the end of the world as we know it the hub has exploded. again. the recent visit of the 456 have saddled the torchwood three headquarters with grief. ianto is dead. jack has shipped off planet. gwen is left with no team and a flare up from the rift. with torchwood one still in shambles, and the ineffective leadership of torchwood two, gwen is having difficulty keeping the public from discovering the other worlders that visit their planet on a regular basis.
a year passes. jack has returned to a partially rebuilt hub and resumes his spot as leader. however, jack's decisions and morals are not as black and white as they once were. this inability to distinguish right from wrong stems from the visions he has been having of ianto. of course, ianto is not a hallucination as jack believes, but a psychic residue trapped within the torchwood mainframe computer. another terror distracts the leader as well: torchwood one is reopening under new management. what new horror will replace the cybermen?
meanwhile, the doctor has regenerated. nobody knows where he is, what he is doing--or even what he looks like. the master and a few of the other time lords have found a way to cheat death, again, and are returning from their imprisonment in the time lock to travel outer space once more.
